On June 15th, Liam turned two and we celebrated by having a big picnic at a nearby park in Westchester, Croton Gorge State Park. We had happened upon it for Memorial Day weekend and knew it would be a fun place to have a party. It's a small-ish park with a huge waterfall, great open fields, a small playground and some hiking. The weather was absolutely perfect and we had a great turnout. Those who were able to make it: Lolo and Lola, Tita Ann, Tito Ben, Kuya Jaymin, Linamarie, Ritika, Ben, Sonali, Mira, Jamie, George and Georgie, Heather, Wil, Sawyer and Jasper, Bridget, Mike, Tara and Owen. We had a lot of yummy food, including a lot of BBQ, fruit skewers and smores! It was Eli and Liam's first time roasting marshmallows and they had a blast. The kids played pin the sheriff badge on Woody (it was a toy story themed party since Liam loves Toy story so much) and did a fun scavenger hunt. They also had fun throwing the frisbee, seeing the waterfall and throwing fun little army men with parachutes up in the air. Liam was hysterical when it was time to sing happy birthday... he kept blowing out the candle on his cupcake immediately! We had to light it about four times and he would blow it out right away. We eventually gave up and sang Happy Birthday to him with an unlit candle. He delighted in licking the icing off of four cupcakes. He also got to have a fun ice cream cone with sprinkles from the ice cream truck. It was a truly wonderful day.
Liam at TWO:
-He's much more verbal now, talking all the time yet not yet always understood and not yet saying sentences. He loves to tell us when things are HOT.
-He's still in size 4 diapers and has moved into 2T shirts. He fits into 18 month to 24 month pants. His shoe size is 5 and 1/2, but he's actually closer now to a six.
-He cannot deal at all when I leave the room he is in. His world is over if I get a shower or try to go into the bathroom without him.
-He spends part of the night in bed with me... he usually falls asleep with me and then Mike moves him to his bed when he comes into the room later. Liam sometimes wakes up around 4 and crawls into bed with us.
-He is always the first child to wake up in the morning, usually between 6:30 and 7
-He LOVES Toy Story and LOVES to talk about Buzz and Woody.
-He is obsessed with broken toys and constantly tells me that Buzz broke (in the movie) or comes over and shows me Skeletor (who lost his leg when Liam threw him a few months ago).
-His main two obsessions in life are stickers and the squeezable applesauces. He used to call applesauce "sauce" and has now strangly morphed that into "Woss." He asks for "woss" first thing when he comes out into the living room (which he calls "home") and approximately 100 times a day. The boy can down an applesauce pouch in five seconds. He could probably eat 50 of them if I let him. I usually cap him at four. Stickers, or "ack! ack!" as he calls them, is his other obsession. He loves sticking them all over his legs, his forehead, his feet... He is very comforted by them and likes to have them frequently. He sticks and unsticks them while sucking his thumb. When a sticker loses its stickiness, it's not good to him and he asks for another. He goes through about 15 (or so it feels) at night before he'll go to bed. When we are in the car, he demands one every 5 min.
-He does this new face that I have dubbed his "Sweet boy" face. He scrunches his eyes and mouth and makes a super cute, super exaggerated smile.
-He is still the most expressive kid ever. When something surprises him, he has the best shocked look.
-He still loves to grab Eli's toys and run off with them, ultimately throwing them up on the kitchen counter where Eli can't reach it or in the sink.
-He copies EVERYTHING his big brother does.
-He LOVES bath time. He loves splashing and loves figuring out how water works.
-He still fights fights fights me when it's time to change his diaper.
-He still loves dogs.
-He is overly dramatic and will constantly say "ow ow ow" if someone brushes him or touches him slightly.
He is a HUGE challenge but a super sweet boy. Can't wait to see what the next few months have in store for us!
